Read PDFs in two languages, and learn the words as you go
Dajia Translate opens any PDF in a side-by-side bilingual reader: the original page on the left, a reading column with the translation on the right. The file stays on your device, and the words you don't know go straight into your word book.
The reader is free.

A PDF translator built for reading and learning
Translate a paper, a textbook chapter or a report, and actually pick up the vocabulary.
Original and translation, side by side
The original pages sit on the left and a bilingual reading column on the right. They scroll together, and clicking a paragraph jumps to its place on the other side. Switch to the reading column only, or to translation only, when you want a cleaner view.
Paragraphs, not broken lines
Two-column papers, running headers and footers, hyphenated line breaks and paragraphs that continue on the next page are put back together before translating, so sentences aren't cut in the middle. Formulas and tables are left as they are. The reading column re-flows the text; if you want the original layout, switch on In-place in the toolbar and the translation is drawn over the original text, right where it was (complex layouts can overlap, and you can switch back to the reading column any time).
Learn from the PDF
Words above your level get a small hint in the reading column. Hover or select a word for a word card, and save it to your word book with its sentence and the page number. Export to Anki, CSV or JSON.
Print or save a bilingual copy
Translate the whole document, then print the reading column or save it as a bilingual PDF from the browser's print dialog.
Scanned pages too
If a page is just a picture with no text, click "Read and translate this page". Only that page is sent, as an image, and it needs a signed-in account because it uses your image allowance.
Private by design
PDFs are opened and read on your device; the file is never uploaded to us. Only the text of the paragraphs you translate goes to the translation service you picked, just like web page translation.
No upload step
Some PDF translators ask you to send the file to a website first. Dajia Translate opens it inside the extension, so there is nothing to upload: the file is read on your device.
Four ways to open a PDF
From the toolbar
On a PDF tab, click the extension icon and choose "Open in reader (bilingual + words)".
Right-click a PDF link
Choose "Open PDF in Dajia Translate" without opening the link first.
Press Alt+A
On a PDF tab, the same shortcut that translates web pages opens the reader (Option+A on a Mac).
Local files
Choose "Open a PDF file…" in the popup, or drag a file onto the reader.
The reader is free. Translation uses the engine you choose.
Free translation engines cost nothing. Pro adds Dajia AI translation for a more natural result. Signing in is only needed for scanned pages.
